Volume 160: Sommo Festival 2024: A Music Lover’s Paradise on Prince Edward Island

Welcome back, Strange Crew!

When it comes to unforgettable music experiences, the Sommo Festival in Prince Edward Island took things to the next level this year. The energy, the performances, and the atmosphere—it was all magic! We were humbled to be invited and even more stoked to interview some of the most exciting acts on the lineup, including Norter Music, Maggie D Andrews, and festival organizer Ben Murphy of Whitecap Entertainment. If you weren’t there, prepare for some serious FOMO.

The 2024 Lineup: Pure Fire

Where do we even begin? Danko Jones, The Beaches, and Greta Van Fleet lit up the stage, bringing the raw energy that makes your woes disappear. Being inches away from these legends was a surreal experience. Imagine seeing Greta Van Fleet shred, Danko Jones rage and The Beaches mesmerize—all in one glorious NIGHT! If you're a live music junkie, this festival has the power to recharge your soul.

The Festival Grounds: A New Standard for Epic

We've been to many festivals, but the Sommo Festival grounds were exceptional. Every detail was carefully thought out—from the wide-open spaces perfect for sprawling out with your crew to the thoughtfully designed culinary stage. Whether you were chilling between sets, grabbing some gourmet food, or checking out live art, it felt like everything had a flow. The vibe was electric, but it never felt too crowded or chaotic—just the right balance of energy and ease.

More Than Just Music: Food, Fun, and More

Sommo isn’t just about killer tunes—it’s a sensory experience. The culinary stage brought the heat (literally) with local chefs showcasing some mouthwatering dishes. And trust us, the food was on point. There were plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained between sets, from pop-up art installations to chill zones that offered a break from the action without making you feel like you were missing out.

Our Interviews: Norter Music, Maggie D Andrews, and Ben Murphy

We had the absolute privilege of interviewing some of the most talented and fascinating people at Sommo. Norter Music talked about their creative process and what it means to play on such a huge stage. Maggie D Andrews brought soulful, heartfelt energy to the festival, sharing stories that moved us. And, of course, we couldn’t pass up the chance to chat with Ben Murphy, the mastermind behind it all. Hearing Ben talk about the vision behind Sommo was inspiring; he’s not just organizing a festival; he’s curating an experience designed to unite people through music, food, and art.
