Volume 159: DEANER ‘89, and givener with the Deaner!
Welcome back, Strange Crew!
Boy, so we got a treat for you. We’re so excited to bring you a (chaotic) chat with Deaner Murdoch, Canadian metalhead and icon and the star of the newest, most badass metal flick, the film Deaner ‘89, which is in theatres across Canada now! GO SEE IT RIGHT NOW!
Strange Grooves was honoured to co-host the premiere after-party in Halifax at the end of last month with the incredible folks at Propeller Arcade (check out our socials for more BTS). It was one hell of a party. ALL PHOTOS BY THE TALENTED NAOMI PETERS!
The crowd at the theatre was incredible, and the energy was fierce! Deaner’s mom came too! When we got to the After-party, the band Deanerslave took the stage; yes, you heard that right, and they freaking ROCKED! We had a fantastic time talking to fans of Deaner, passing out swag and having so much fun.
After things wrapped up, we had a chance to sit down with Deaner and his buddy (and co-host of the North American Friends Movie Podcast)!! We talked about the movie's heartfelt themes, the role people who introduce us to new music have in our lives, Deaner’s impression of the East Coast, and more! We talk about real life and sprinkle some strange in there, too, lol! We may have had to edit a part out; subscribe to our Patreon to find out what it was, haha!
This is our most unhinged episode but in the best way possible. We had a blast, and we want you to come along for the ride and make sure you catch Deaner ‘89 in theatres NOW, as it is only showing for a short time.
In our opinion, the movie is a win in many ways for creatives, Canadians, and classic rock lovers. We loved seeing all the B-rolls of Out West, we loved seeing the characters develop, and we feel this movie is genuinely a great movie of our time. We are beyond honoured to have had the chance to work with Deaner and chat with him. The movie, If you see it, let us know what you think! Tell your friends and GIVER!
Until next time, Keep it strange.
Cait and Cherise.
