Vol: 140 An enchanted chat with Miss Pamela Des Barres!

Hanging at Strange Grooves HQ

Welcome back, Strange Crew!

This week, we have a fantastic show and interview for you: legendary rock icon Miss Pamela Des Barres!

For those who may not know, Miss Pamela is the Author of the groundbreaking "I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie," in which she takes readers on a captivating journey through the vibrant Los Angeles rock music scene of the 1960s and 1970s. This iconic book set the stage for a series of nonfiction page-turners, including "Take Another Little Piece of My Heart: A Groupie Grows Up," "Let’s Spend the Night Together: Backstage Secrets of Rock Muses and Supergroupies," and "Let It Bleed: How to Write a Rockin’ Memoir." Today, Pamela is respected as an author, journalist, creative writing instructor, podcaster, and rock historian, proudly embracing the term "Groupie" as its most famous standard-bearer!

Pamela has witnessed rock music's evolution and has been part of its inner circle since the 1960s. This week, Strange Grooves caught up with her via video chat as we prepare for her big event at the Whiskey A Go Go: "Enchanted Evening With Pamela Des Barres." That’s right, Strange Grooves is on the move back to LA!

In this interview, we talk to her about her childhood in Los Angeles, her passion for vintage clothing and how that collection still grows today; we go deep into her enduring love for music, working with Frank Zappa and The GTOs, how things have changed, her writing workshops, the word “groupie” and so much more! Miss P also reveals her favourite performance she ever saw at the Whisky…and it might not be who you expect!

We hope you enjoy this chat with Miss Pamela as much as we did. Make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram to join us on our upcoming trip to LA and the Whisky!
