Volume 23: Gordie Tufts of Backstreet Records

On this episode of Strange Grooves, we are joined by a special guest, Gordie Tufts.

For those listeners outside of Saint John, Gordie owns Backstreet Records, a record store that has been around since its beginnings in 1979. Backstreet Records also has a popular location in Fredericton as well.

We chat with Gordie about what led him to open a record store and what has kept him in the business, despite previously expressing a desire to retire and sell the shop.

(Oh, we also reference a great story about Backstreet written by our friend Julia Wright, you can read that here.)

We then dig into Record Day and the work store owners put into the event every year, as well as why some stores don’t like the day at all.

Gordie tells us what he listens to when he’s not at the shop and some of his favorite concert experiences. Also, he shares what record he’d save if he could only pick just one.

Record store pet peeves; terrible Black Sabbath album art; guest appearances from Chuck (and some guy named Kyle) and so much more on this episode of Strange Grooves!

Be sure to check out Backstreet on record store day and all the other shops. Lots of entertainment happening. Quality block Party HQ will be bumping to Strange Grooves and we will be selling passes to the festival! If you have questions about Area 506 too please ask
