Strange Grooves Volume 16: Josh Bravener and the Exorcism of Elvis Presley
We’re on volume sweet 16 and man, do we ever got a treat for you!
In this episode, we are joined by Josh Bravener, lead vocalist and guitarist of The Hypochondriacs, an incredible alt-country quintet and powerhouse rockabilly band, hailing from Fredericton New Brunswick.
The band is taking Eastern Canada by storm, so we start out by talking to Josh about some big news the group recently announced, including joining The Macissac Agency and getting an East Coast Music Award nomination.
We then talk about Josh’s early experiences with music, including his past of being a leading Elvis cover performer along with his father. He opens up about how his father’s love for Elvis got him excommunicated from the family’s church, which led to some pretty ridiculous shit, including an exorcism. He’s not joking. Josh explains how this experience made its way onto the new Hypochondriacs album.
We dive into Josh’s others musical influences such as George Jones, Hank Williams, and Willie Nelson. We also talk about the personal stories often shared by artists during shows and how sharing those stories connects people to not only with the music but each other.
That and so much more on this episode of Strange Grooves!
We highly recommend getting a copy of this record! It’s straight up fucking awesome! We are Proud and humbled by the opportunity to interview Josh and to have witnessed seeing the band live. Check them out 😉
