Volume 17: Neil Bonner, Music Trivia, Spotify and Cherise coughing

Once a month, the Five and Dime, the vinyl bar in Saint John, hosts a music trivia night.

Team Strange Grooves always makes a point to go, often to much success (we’ve won all but one game so far!). But even if we bombed every time, it’s still something we’d go do. There’s something relaxing and fun about hanging out with friends, having drinks and pizza and talking to music.

A big reason Five and Dime trivia nights are so fun is host Neil Bonner, who decided to pay us a visit last week before this month’s game.

We chat with Neil about how he got the gig as a trivia host. He shares how he manages to bring variety and challenge to each game. He says he wanted to ensure his music trivia nights weren’t just for young white dudes who wear flannel (or, as he puts it, “people who look like him).

We then dig into Neil’s personal music collection. He explains his switch from vinyl to mostly streaming and how he physically supports the music he loves by going to shows. He then takes us through the rest of his playlist…

That and more on this episode of Strange Grooves:
